Moscow strongly condemns US airstrikes on Syria and Iraq, seeks urgent review of the attacks at UN Security Council

Moscow strongly condemns the US airstrikes on Syria and Iraq and is seeking an immediate review of the attacks at the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday, according to Sputnik.

“We strongly condemn the new blatant act of US-UK aggression against sovereign states. We are seeking urgent review of the current situation at the UN Security Council,” Zakharova said in a statement.

The United States and the United Kingdom neglected international law by attacking the countries and attempted to drag the major nations of the region into the conflict, the spokeswoman also stated.

The American air strikes, that included strategic bombers, on parts of Iraq and Syria, which destroyed and damaged dozens of facilities, and killed civilians, once again proved to the world the aggressive nature of the American policy in the Middle East, and Washington’s complete disregard for international law, a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The statement added “Washington, which is confident of its impunity, continues to sow destruction and chaos in the Middle East, which means that the American air strikes are specifically designed to further inflame the conflict in the region,” warning of Washington’s deliberate plans to plunge the countries of the region into this conflict.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the American aggression against areas in Syria and Iraq has no justification, describing it as “an attempt to flex muscles with the aim of influencing the internal political situation in the United States, and of correcting the failed path of the current American administration on the international scene.”

UN Secretary General Guterres expressed concern after US strikes in Iraq and Syria

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres reacted to the United States strikes on Iraq and Syria. This was told by his official representative Stefan Dujarric, RIA Novosti reported on Saturday

According to him, the Secretary General is concerned about the risks of further escalation of the conflict. Guterres called on all sides to take concrete measures to reduce tensions.

Dujarric added that the Secretary General of the organization insists on taking into account the economic and human losses in the broader conflict in an “already unstable” region.
