UN agencies: Cutting funding to UNRWA is disastrous

Occupied Al-Quds, (ST) – Heads of United Nations humanitarian agencies confirmed that cutting funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) would have disastrous consequences for Gaza Strip.

Wafa News Agency quoted the United Nations Inter-Agency Standing Committee, which includes the main partners concerned with humanitarian affairs inside and outside the organization, as saying in a statement today: Withdrawing funding from UNRWA is dangerous and could lead to the collapse of the humanitarian system in Gaza, with far-reaching humanitarian and human rights consequences in the occupied Palestinian territories and throughout the region.

Palestine condemned the Israeli occupation campaign against UNRWA. It stressed that the decision of a number of countries to suspend its funding to the agency is a collective punishment for millions of Palestinians, especially in Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to continuous Israeli aggression since the seventh of last October.

Palestine called on these countries to reconsider their decision and retract it in line with their declared positions regarding the need to protect civilians and secure their basic humanitarian needs.
