Health Minister discusses with WHO Director and Regional Director health services in Syria 

The Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan al-Ghabash, discussed in two separate meetings with the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, and the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean region, Dr. Hanan Balkhi, ways to strengthen health cooperation, develop early recovery programs and improve the reality of health services in Syria.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the 154th session of the WHO Executive Council, currently held in Geneva, the two sides discussed a number of long-term health projects and strengthening support for early recovery programs and projects to significantly improve the humanitarian situation in Syria, especially in the health sector.

Minister Al-Ghabash referred to the difficulties facing Syria as a result of the terrorist war and unilateral coercive measures affecting various vital economic and service sectors, including the health sector, highlighting the World Health Organization role in supporting the sector, particularly during disasters, pandemics and ongoing coordination and cooperation, which contributed to health security.

The director-general of the organization noted the efforts exerted by Syria to continue providing health services to citizens, stressing the organization’s commitment to continue providing the support required by Syria to strengthen the health sector.

For her part, Dr. Balkhi stressed her pursuit to establish a continuous partnership and cooperation to serve the health sector in Syria and the region and that she will work at full capacity to achieve the common goal of “Health for all”.
