Al-Ja’afari asserts ‘opposition coalition’ lacks nationalism and professionalism

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has underscored that the ‘opposition coalition’ delegation was neither national nor professional negotiators in the Geneva 2 talks held in Switzerland .

Bashar al-Ja’afari , who was speaking yesterday in an in interview with the Syrian TV Channel, said that the Syrian official delegation discovered during the Geneva talks that it was negotiating with an opposition practicing political immorality.

“The coalition delegation was seeking media gains through using the humanitarian issue to tell the public opinion that it scored points against the Syrian official delegation,” al-Ja’afari said.

He clarified that the first clause in the 2012 Geneva communiqué, which includes 8 clauses, states for stopping violence, i.e. stopping terrorism. “The communiqué was formulated without Syria’s presence.”

Logical sequence

Al-Ja’afari reiterated that the Syrian official delegation is ready to debate all issues according to logical sequence and priorities with participation of broad spectrum from national opposition and other groups to reach national détente which excludes no one.

“The catalyst for excluding national opposition in the Geneva talks is the unwillingness of the other side[coalition] to form transitional government. It [coalition] just wants power whatever the cost may be,” he added.

Al-Ja’afari noted that the coalition delegation tried to abort the Geneva talks and to embarrass the Syrian official delegation through unacceptable provocation and impoliteness. “But they failed.”

Orders

He asserted that the coalition delegation was not a decision-maker and it was receiving orders from 11 ambassadors of the countries of the so-called “Syria Friends” and their intelligence bodies.

“Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey are directly involved in supporting terrorism in Syria, The Saudi officials have announced that openly and they run operations from Turkey to send terrorists and weapons to Syria,” al-Ja’afari said.

No negotiation techniques

He added that the other side neither denied nor objected to the clues and evidences presented by the Syrian official delegation on all issues, confirming that the coalition delegation has no negotiation skills and it rejected all papers presented by the Syrian official delegation without reading it.

“There were disputes among the coalition delegation’s members during the talks,” al-Ja’afari said.

He also made it clear that the United States has worked to pressure the Syrian government and not to back the political solution.

Al-Ja’afari called on the United States to stop its intervention in Syria’s internal affairs.
