Lavrentiev: The United States is the main cause of instability in Syria

The Special Representative of the Russian President to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev has affirmed that the United States is the main cause of instability in Syria by continuing its illegal military presence and supporting terrorist organizations and separatist groups.
Lavrentiev said during a press conference today at the conclusion of the 21st international meeting in the Astana format on Syria: “The delegations participating in the meeting on the 24th and 25th of January held extensive consultations about the situation on the ground and the challenges facing the Syrian people, who are still suffering as a result of the coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and European countries. The consultations also focused on the necessity of confronting the separatist agendas of American-backed armed groups.
Lavrentiev added: “Russia and Iran agree, and there is a similar position by Turkey, that the illegal American presence in the Syrian Al-Jazira and Al-Tanf regions is the main reason for the ongoing instability in Syria, as the US continues to plunder the Syrian wealth, encourage separatist tendencies and support terrorist organizations, especially ISIS, which are used by the US to destabilize the situation in Syria and this is unacceptable”. He stressed that the Syrian people reject these tendencies and the American presence, and assert the necessity of fighting terrorism and preserving the unity of Syrian territories.
Lavrentiev pointed out that the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, the bombing of civilian centers and airports, and the infliction of innocent victims, are a blatant violation of all international rules and laws, calling on the international community to work to put an end to these repeated attacks on Syria and Lebanon, and to stop the continuing aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.
Lavrentiev stressed the need to embody the Palestinian state on the ground so that the situation in the region does not explode.
