Washington-(ST)-The American newspaper Politico revealed today that the European Union is facing many difficulties in imposing new sanctions on Russia, which are scheduled to be adopted on February 24.
The newspaper quoted a high-ranking European diplomat as saying: “The main problem facing any European measures against Russia lies in the fact that all large Russian facilities are effectively subject to sanctions, but some sectors cannot be sanctioned, including Russian nuclear and liquefied natural gas.”
The diplomat pointed out that some European countries, especially Hungary and Germany, oppose the imposition of any European sanctions on Russian gas.
The European Union had previously imposed packages of economic sanctions on Russia after its special military operation to protect Donbas, but these sanctions had an adverse impact on its countries and their economies.
