Nigerian Foreign Minister: The Palestinians have the right to establish their independent state

Abuja, (ST) –  Nigerian Foreign Minister Maitama Tugar announced that his country is calling on the United States to put pressure on the Israeli occupation entity to end its aggression against Gaza.

Tugar said in an interview with the British newspaper the Financial Times: The key to stopping the war in Gaza is in the hands of the United States, as it has greater influence than European countries in the region. He added that the U.S is capable of putting greater pressure on “Israel” in this context.

Tugar stressed that the Palestinians have the right to obtain their independent state and self-determination.

Earlier, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the African Union Commission, described the war in Gaza as immoral and unacceptable. He said: We demand an immediate end to this unjust war against the Palestinians, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

On the other hand, the Nigerian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s desire to join the BRICS group, noting that it deserves a seat in the UN Security Council as well.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that about 30 countries are interested in rapprochement with BRICS, stressing that the group has a promising future.

Until the end of last year, BRICS included Russia, Brazil, China, India, and South Africa, before Egypt, Iran, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joined it starting in the New Year.
