US Military Expert: The Presence of US Troops in Syria Violates international Law

Military expert and former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter stressed that the presence of US troops in Syria is an illegal occupation, demanding that these forces leave and respect Syria’s sovereignty on its territory.

“The US forces in Syria are pursuing goals that have not been clearly defined by the US Congress,” Ritter said in an interview with SANA correspondent in Moscow, noting that the presence of Russian troops in Syria is legal and in accordance with international law because it came at the request of the Syrian government, while a similar request has not been addressed to the United States.

The US military expert stressed that” stealing the natural resources of the occupied territory is considered a war crime, ” noting that the United States continues to facilitate the theft of Syrian oil and provide support to a political entity that is unacceptable to the Syrians and the Syrian government, and does not have legitimacy under international law.

Regarding the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Ritter said that the Israeli occupation is committing genocide against the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to act and stop it.
