António Guterres: The attacks on the Gaza Strip unleashed massive destruction and killed many  civilians

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed that the attacks carried out by “Israel” on the Gaza Strip over a period of 100 days unleashed massive destruction and levels of killing of civilians at an unprecedented rate. He stressed that the majority of the victims were women and children.

The United Nations News Center quoted Guterres as saying in a press conference in the headquarters of the UN in New York:” We cannot allow what is happening in the Gaza Strip to continue, and nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people”. He called for the necessity of an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the besieged Strip to ensure that aid reaches those in need.

Guterres also expressed his deep concern about the clear violations of international humanitarian law and the obstacles to the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip. He warned that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip cannot be described in words, there is no safe place in the Gaza Strip, and the specter of famine looms over all residents there with the risks of disease, malnutrition and other health threats.

Guterres called on the World Food Program, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization earlier today to expedite the delivery of food and supplies to the besieged people of the Gaza Strip, which faces an increasing risk of famine.
