Forestation campaigns in Damascus countryside marking 72nd Tree Day

On the occasion of the 72nd Tree Day, the Directorate of Agriculture of Damascus Countryside Governorate, in cooperation with the Farmers’ Union in Damascus and Damascus Countryside and the Chamber of Agriculture, implemented a forestation campaign in Al-Dimas area.

Director of Agriculture in Damascus countryside Irfan Ziadeh explained that the forestation campaign extends over an area of 5,000 hectares which will be planted with 2,500 forest trees, varying between pine, cypress and cedar, to compensate for the loss of trees in this area, due to excessive cutting down of trees during the past years, pointing out that the governorate’s forestation plan for this year covers about 250 hectares.

Forestation campaign in Mount Qasioun

Yesterday, on the occasion of the 72nd Tree Day and as a part of the national forestation campaign “Together We plant”, the Damascus and Damascus countryside Chamber of Agriculture in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and the Damascus branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, implemented a forestation campaign at Wadi al-Safira site in Mount Qasioun.

The Governor of Damascus Muhammad Tariq Krishati explained in a statement to the media that the campaign is a continuation of the forestation campaign “Together we Plant”, which began years ago, and today it targets Mount Qasioun to restore vegetation to the city of Damascus, in a way that contributes to protecting the city from climatic conditions in addition to giving it an aesthetic appearance.

Dr. Wissam Nasrallah, member of the leadership of the Damascus branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party and head of the Workers and Farmers Office, stated that 5,000 fruitful and forestry plants will be planted vary between pine, olive, and others, noting that the campaign will also later include four or five other sites in the city of Damascus and its outskirts.
