Juzour Association provides various services to 200 people with Down Syndrome to integrate them into society

The number of people with Down Syndrome benefiting from the services of the Juzour Developmental Association has exceeded 200 of various age groups, according to the Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors Kholoud Rajab.

Rajab explained in a statement to SANA that with the aim of integrating people with disabilities into society and empowering them economically, the association has provided training to a number of them, especially those with Down Syndrome, on professions that suit their skills. The integration process takes place after conducting a comprehensive assessment of the cases of people with disabilities with the aim of developing educational and behavioral plans that suit their abilities and providing them with rehabilitation services.

Rajab pointed out that the training programs are diverse including “early intervention, educational programs, social and psychological support and vocational rehabilitation”. The programs are based on developing skills including language, social behavior, self-care and attention, she said, noting that the training and educational sessions are divided into short sessions, interspersed with breaks and evaluation tests.

The Executive Director of the Association Hashem Al-Najjar indicated that work is being done to provide internal and external activities for the beneficiaries, and to conduct periodic evaluations of the treatment plans to develop programs and facilitate these persons’ entry into the labor market based on educational tests.

Al-Najjar made it clear that the association, which was established in 2016, has succeeded, more than four years ago, in achieving the first real integration of its kind locally of a number of people with Down Syndrome, by opening the “Socit” café in Tishreen Park and providing them with job opportunities.
