New York (ST) – UN’s special rapporteur, Paula Gaviria Betancur has stressed that Israel is trying to permanently alter Gaza’s demographics.
The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, Paula Gaviria Betancur, affirmed that Gaza Strip has turned into an uninhabitable place, after about three months of Israeli aggression against it.
Betancur said in an interview with CNN: “Israel seeks to permanently change the composition of Gaza Strip by issuing ever-increasing evacuation orders and widespread and systematic attacks on the civilians and infrastructure.”
She pointed to the destruction of the Strip’s infrastructure, the destruction of homes and facilities, and the lack of access to humanitarian aid.
Betancur stressed that to conduct an assessment of reconstruction, the UN must be allowed full and unsupervised access to the affected areas.
