The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, renewed his call on the Security Council to take immediate measures to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, bring in humanitarian aid, and stop the Israeli occupation’s plans to forcibly displace its people.
Wafa Agency reported that Mansour made it clear in three identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly that the occupation continues the mass slaughter against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, killing them in cold blood in the West Bank or through assassinations, the most recent of which was the assassination of the leader in Saleh Al-Arouri’s Hamas movement in Beirut the day before yesterday in violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Mansour pointed out that 22,313 Palestinians, including more than 9,000 children and 6,500 women, were martyred, and more than 57,000 were injured since the occupation began its aggression against the Gaza Strip on October 7th, pointing to the shocking reports about the kidnapping of Palestinian children and infants by occupation soldiers, in addition to the arrest of thousands of Palestinians from the Strip who were taken to unknown places.
Mansour stated that the occupation forces and settlers have been escalating their attacks on the cities and towns of the West Bank since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza, which resulted in the death of at least 324 Palestinians, including 83 children, and the injury of more than 3,800 others, which raises the number of victims of the occupation’s attacks in the West Bank during the past year 2023 to 524 Palestinians.
Mansour pointed out that the occupation forces have arrested thousands of Palestinians in the West Bank since the 7th of last October. The detainees are being subjected to torture and medical neglect, which led to the death of 7 prisoners in the occupation detention centers during the same period, in addition to the occupation continuing to impose strict restrictions on movement in Jerusalem and all parts of the West Bank. The occupation further closes all entrances to Palestinian villages and towns and besieges their residents.
Mansour stressed the need to make serious efforts to bind the occupation to international law and international humanitarian law through effective accountability measures, including the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, stressing the necessity of implementing all relevant United Nations resolutions, including Security Council Resolutions 2334, 2712 and 2720. The General Assembly’s recently adopted resolution called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Strip.
