World Health: Gaza residents face grave danger…there must be an immediate ceasefire

The World Health Organization WHO has warned that the residents of Gaza face a grave danger in the light of the spread of hunger and despair throughout the entire Strip, of which the Israeli aggression has destroyed large areas.

Agence France-Presse quoted the organization’s director, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as saying: “21 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza Strip have completely stopped working,” stressing that “a grave danger threatens the Palestinians who suffer from horrific injuries, as well as those who are exposed to the risks of disease as well as hunger.”

He added ” Our crews working in the sector informed us that hungry people stop the organization’s convoys in the hope of obtaining food.”

Ghebreyesus stressed that “the need for food is still urgent,” calling on the international community to take “urgent steps for a ceasefire because the World Health Organization’s ability to provide medicines, medical supplies, and fuel to hospitals faces major restrictions.”

The organization’s director said: “The safety of our employees and the continuity of operations depend on the immediate arrival of more food supplies to all parts of Gaza,” pointing out that the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council last week “seemed to be a source of hope for improving the distribution of humanitarian aid within the Strip, but unfortunately it did not “The decision has no effect yet.”

For his part, Rick Pepperkorn, the organization’s representative in the Palestinian territories, expressed “deep concern that the current displacement of tens of thousands will lead to increasing pressure on health facilities in the south, which are already suffering,” adding that “the new displacement will lead to more overcrowding and an increased risk of infectious diseases. This makes it difficult to deliver humanitarian aid.”

At least 21,110 Palestinian have been martyred since the 7th of last October, most of them women and children. Tens of thousands have been wounded and tens of thousands of homes and facilities have been destroyed as a result of the ongoing brutal Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
