Boat with 54 passengers on board rescued north of Lebanon

Naval Forces of the Lebanese army have announced today that they were able to rescue a boat with 54 passengers on board, including women and children.

The website of the Lebanese Al-Manar TV channel quoted the Navy as saying: “The passengers left illegally through northern Lebanon towards Cyprus, where their boat suffered a malfunction at sea several miles away,” noting that the boat was towed to the Lebanese shore, while no one was injured.

The Lebanese shores have witnessed many incidents of boats sinking carrying illegal immigrants over the past years, leading to dozens of victims.
