Syrian Gold Pound in Trading

(ST) – The Association of Goldsmiths noted that Today is the first day where the Syrian gold pound to be put in circulation in the shops of goldsmiths.

The head of the Association of Goldsmiths in Damascus, Ghassan Jazmati, stated that the owners of the workshops bought the required molds for minting from the Association of Goldsmiths exclusively.  Through the sale of molds, every owner of a workshop signed a written commitment not to lend this mold for any craftsman and provide the golden pounds that he spills to the Association for hallmarking and defining the gold standard.

Mr. Jazmati indicated that the Board of Directors of Goldsmiths will give directions in breaking the gold lira if there were any differences in the weight of the gold lira or its standards without taking into account the opinion of the owner.

“Thanks to the Damascus Craftsmen Union and the General Federation of Crafts which exerted great efforts to make this project a success, stressing at the same time that the interest and the flexibility of the Central Bank of Syria in dealing with this issue and its support for the association enabled it to reach this project,” Mr. Jazmati said.
