National Committee for UNESCO discusses enhancing awareness about the importance of tangible and intangible heritage
The members of the committee, which includes representatives from relevant ministries and national bodies, stressed the necessity of preparing capacity-building programs in the field of tangible and intangible heritage and preparing files that require a long time to include heritage elements on UNESCO’s lists, in addition to organizing tours and trips for school students to the Geological Museum in Damascus and cultural museums in all the governorates.
The Minister of Education, Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Muhammad Amer Al-Mardini, pointed to the role of the Committee in coordinating between institutions and UNESCO in order to enable the implementation of projects and plans according to needs, stressing the importance of working to benefit from expertise and to cooperate to determine priorities.
During the meeting, the Director General of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), Dr. Mohamed A’amar, referred in a video speech to Syria’s role in supporting joint Arab work in the organization, and its efforts to present projects that contribute to strengthening this work by hosting a number of conferences and events in various fields and supporting the organization’s programs.
Dr. A’amar highlighted the importance of advancing the organization’s efforts in the field of promoting the Arabic language in support of its cultural, educational and scientific mission.
