A ceremony held at the headquarters of the Schools of Martyrs’ Children to mark the 65th anniversary of Cuban Revolution’s victory

DAMASCUS, Dec.18, (ST)- The Embassy of Cuba in Damascus, in cooperation with the Commission of the Schools of  Martyrs’ Children, organized a ceremony on the occasion of the 65th  anniversary of the victory of the Cuban Revolution, at the commission’s headquarters in Damascus.

Director of the commission, Major General Lamis Rajab, stressed in a speech on the occasion that the Syrian-Cuban relations are strong, and that the peoples of the two countries have a common fate in the struggle, noting Cuba’s position in support of Syria in its just causes and its cooperation in all fields.

She  said that the participation of the schools of martyrs’ children in this celebration is a great honor since the Cuban Revolution had a great impact on the Cubans and many revolutionaries in the world, due to their victory over the hegemony of the U.S. and confronting and challenging the blockade imposed on them thanks to their faith, belonging, solidarity and love for their country, which achieved prosperity, development and progress in all fields and aspects, especially in the medical and scientific fields.

The Cuban Ambassador to Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodriguez, said during his speech that this ceremony is a reflection of the affection, friendship and solidarity between the Cuban and Syrian peoples, who struggle and triumph despite the attacks and sanctions they have been subjected to for years.

He pointed out that commemorating the revolution in this symbolic institution is based on the fact that educational institutions in Cuba and Syria share the same values and principles.

The diplomat clarified that the criminal blockade imposed by the United States on his country for more than 60 years hinders the development and well-being of the Cuban people, especially children and youth, stressing that despite these hostile measures, important achievements have been achieved in all fields.

In a statement to reporters, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that Syria would continue to stand by Cuba in the face of the unjust and criminal blockade imposed on it, noting that holding this celebration in the schools of the martyrs’ children has two symbols, the first is the importance of martyrdom in the struggle for freedom and independence and defending the revolution. The second is that these schools are a source of cadres and competencies that can contribute to working to continue the revolution and life, give the nation pride and dignity, and maintain sovereignty and stability.

Sabbagh extended his warmest congratulations to the leadership and people of Cuba on the anniversary of the victory of the great Cuban Revolution.

The ceremony included a documentary  about Syrian-Cuban relations, a singing segment presented by the Martyrs’ Girls Schools Choir and dances performed by a number of martyrs’ children.
