Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has passed away at the age of 86, the Kuwaiti emiri court announced on Saturday.
The Kuwaiti media quoted the minister of the emiri court Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sabah as saying in a statement: “With great sadness and sorrow, we – the Kuwaiti people, the Arab and Islamic nations, and the friendly peoples of the world – mourn the late His Highness the emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away today”. The statement was aired on state television on Saturday.
Sheikh Nawaf was sworn in as Emir of Kuwait in September 2020 after the death of brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, at the age of 91. In February 20th, 2006, Sheikh Nawaf was appointed as the Crown Prince. he undertook several positions, including the first Deputy prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Deputy Chief of the national Guards, Minister of Social Affaris and labor, Minister of Defense and Governor of Hawalli governorate.
