A national afforestation campaign to be launched in the governorates next Sunday

With the participation of more than 2000 students, the National Union of Syrian students, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and civil society, will launch next Sunday a national afforestation campaign under the title “A Good Implant”, which will run until December 28.

Dr. Youssef Shahin, a member of the Executive Office of the National Union of Syrian students and head of the Bureau of voluntary work and social activities, explained in a statement to SANA today that the campaign  is based on the Federation’s vision  in the voluntary work sector to implement activities that meet the needs of affected communities and to employ and involve young people in covering those needs.He pointed out that state and private branches of the Students’ Union will participate in the campaign in various areas of Syria.

He also noted the importance of involving students in environmental conservation and involving them in the planning and implementation of environmental activities as part of their contribution to resisting climate change in Syria.

Dr. Shahin pointed out that the campaign targets a number of sites in the governorates that have been exposed to fires more than once, including in Latakia Governorate, there are “Kasab and Om al-Toyour” areas with an expected number of up to 15 thousand forest plantations. In Tartus governorate (Banias countryside, Dahr al-Anza, Dahr al-dardara, Al-Fanar, Sheikh Hamdan and Burj Al-Saby) with an expected number of up to 15 thousand implants, as well in Homs Governorate (Nazareth and Al-Hawash), there are up to two thousand seedlings, and in Hama governorate (Maren Al-Jabal, Hama Road and airport, Masyaf, and the village of Ali Katun Salamieh with up to 6 thousand plantings.

Dr. Shaheen indicated that the campaign will cover several areas in Aleppo governorate with up to 3 thousand implants, and in Damascus governorate with up to 5 thousand implants.
