Vatican Pope Prayed for the Success of Geneva 2 on Syria

VATICAN, (ST)_ Pope Francis of the Vatican prayed for the success of the international conference on Syria Geneva 2 which was opened in Montreux , Switzerland, calling for ” halting and ending violence ” in Syria .

AFP quoted Pope Francis as saying during a public meeting before 13 thousand people in St. Peter’s Square of the Vatican today , that all parties ” should spare no effort to stop violence and end the conflict that has caused much suffering .”

The Pope also prayed for pursuing ” a decisive reconciliation , understanding and reconstruction .”

“I hope Syria will be cherished by the behavior of a crucial reconciliation , understanding and reconstruction with the participation of all her citizens , where every one of finds in the other as brother.”, the Pontiff stressed .

For his part, Monsignor Mario Zenara Apostolic Nuncio in Damascus stressed while talking about Geneva 2 through Vatican Radio, the importance of the meeting of the parties involved in the crisis, as means to ” put an end to death and destruction and the restoration of the humanitarian law .”

The Vatican , however, is taking part in the work of the international conference on Syria with a delegation including Monsignor Silvano Tomasi, the delegate to the UN and its specialized agencies in Geneva, Monsignor Alberto Ortega Marty , a member of the Secretariat of the Government of the Vatican .

The Geneva conference began in the city of Montreux 2 this morning with the participation of Syria and it is expected that fighting terrorism will be on top of its agenda.
