An American veto prevents the Security Council from adopting a resolution to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza

New York, (ST) – The United States of America used its veto to prevent the UN Security Council from adopting a draft resolution submitted by the United Arab Emirates demanding an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Although 13 countries out of 15 members of the Council voted in favor of the draft resolution, the use of the veto by the United States, a permanent member of the Council prevented the adoption of the draft resolution, while Britain abstained from voting.

In its latest version, the draft resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons in the Gaza Strip. It warns of the catastrophic humanitarian situation there. It also calls for the protection of civilians and ensuring the arrival of humanitarian aid.

This is the second time that the United States has used its veto during the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, as it thwarted a Brazilian draft resolution on the 18th of last October.

U.S also obstructed two Russian draft resolutions to immediately stop the occupation’s aggression, declare a humanitarian truce, and securing the arrival of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
