Polyanskiy: United States’ veto sentences tens of thousands of civilians to death in Palestine

New York, (ST) – Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy affirmed that the United States’ use of the veto to prevent the Security Council from adopting a ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip is a death sentence for tens of thousands of civilians in Palestine.

Polyanskiy yesterday said during a Security Council session: The outcome of the United States’ ban on the Security Council intervening to resolve the crisis is a graveyard for Palestinian children in Gaza, and we will not be exaggerating if we say that we will witness dark days in the Middle East.

Polyanskiy added: Once again, the United States has obstructed access to a ceasefire, and before our eyes condemned tens of thousands of civilians to death in Palestine. “American diplomacy left behind a scorched earth and destruction”, he added.

Polyanskiy continued: History will not forgive these moves from Washington.

“We have now witnessed the true values of this system, when we saw how two members of the Security Council tolerated Israel’s bloodshed”, he said.

The Russian deputy delegate said: There is nothing left for us in the Council to do except redouble our efforts to reach a decision that will alleviate the suffering of civilians, within the small limits and restrictions available to us.

“It is necessary to ensure that a decision is reached, and we cannot leave innocent civilians at the mercy of those who consider war a geopolitical game and a way to generate profits”, he added.

The United States of America used its veto to prevent the UN Security Council from adopting a draft demanding an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
