Rocket Attack Targets the US Embassy in Baghdad

A rocket attack at dawn today targeted the US embassy in the Green Zone of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Sumeria News website quoted the embassy spokesman’s office as saying: “the US embassy was attacked by two missiles. Assessments are still underway, while no injuries have been reported,” noting that “no one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far”.

“We retain the right to self-defense,” the embassy spokesman added.

Earlier in the day, Iraqi media reported that strong explosions had been heard in the Green Zone, while video footage was circulated from inside the area showing the sound of rockets and sirens fired by the Embassy, as well as audio warnings addressing Embassy personnel.
