Iran: The International Community must hold the Zionist entity accountable and prevent its impunity

Assistant permanent representative of Iran to the United Nations Zahra Ershadi stressed that the international community has a responsibility to prevent the Zionist entity from impunity after its continuous aggression and brutal crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

“The international community has a common responsibility to preserve justice and prevent impunity, and accordingly Iran supports the efforts of the international community to punish brutal crimes and promote and achieve judicial justice,” IRNA quoted Ershadi as saying at the twenty-second meeting of the Assembly of States Members of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court yesterday.

“The crimes committed in recent weeks clearly include all the elements of war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity, and it is expected that the International Criminal Court will not leave the perpetrators of heinous crimes unpunished “. “Every day that passes without accountability innocent civilians are killed and slaughtered – their land is confiscated and their homes are destroyed, ” she said.

She pointed out that the shameful impunity granted to the Zionist entity by its supporters encouraged it to continue its brutal murders with absolute peace of mind.

Ershadi continued: “the court must show whether it is an independent and impartial International Criminal Court in the fight against impunity and the preservation of law-based order. It also has to decide whether it is ready to resolutely resist the “bullying” of certain governments, act in favor of justice and accountability as in other situations and issues, or whether it is ready to back down and allow the crimes committed by the occupying forces and  condone their impunity”.
