Palestinian Water Authority: The occupation’s plan to pump seawater into Gaza lead to the destruction of the underground water reservoir

Palestinian Water Authority warned of the dangers of the Israeli occupation implementing its plan to pump seawater into Gaza Strip using large pumps, which will lead to a water and environmental catastrophe and serious risks, especially to groundwater that will be difficult to compensate in future.
The Authority said in a statement according to Wafe Agency that implementation this plan to pump seawater will have destructive effects on the coastal underground water reservoir in Gaza strip, in terms of unprecedented rise in groundwater salinity rates, due to the salinity of the seawater, thus eliminating the groundwater reservoir in Gaza and making it impossible for life to continue in the Strip.
Palestinian Water Authority added: Pumping seawater below the Strip into sandy layers will lead to the disturbance and dilution of the sandy soil, and thus a subsidence in the ground’s surface in many areas of the Strip. This threatens the collapse of the remaining homes, buildings, and infrastructure, in addition to its impact on an increase in the level of salinity in the soil, which will make it unsuitable for agriculture.
