484 thousand hectares have been cultivated with wheat and 786 thousand hectares with barley

The area cultivated with wheat has reached about 484 thousand hectares, while the area cultivated with barley has reached about 786 thousand hectares so far, in various governorates, according to the Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Ahmed Haider.

Haider explained that the majority of governorates have begun implementing the winter cultivation plan for the current season, as the total area planted with wheat, reached about 484 thousand hectares out of the total approved plan, amounting to one million and 490 thousand hectares.

Haider pointed out that the area cultivated with barley, amounted to about 786 thousand hectares, while the plan includes cultivation of about 1.4 million hectares, indicating that the quantities distributed to farmers of sifted and sterilized wheat seeds amounted to 22 thousand tons and 83 tons of barley seeds.

Regarding the cultivation of legume crops and some other varieties, Haider pointed out that about 31,000 hectares of lentil, chickpea, bean and pea crops were planted, in addition to the cultivation of about 8,178 hectares of the fall potato crop, in the governorates of Daraa, Homs, Hama, Al-Ghab, Idlib, Aleppo and Suwayda, with an implementation rate of about 75 percent of the approved plan is about 10,915 hectares.
