Iran, Cuba call for global alliance to support Palestine

Iran and Cuba have called for establishing Global Alliance to Support Palestine.

Speaking at a press conference with his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel, held in Tehran on Monday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi said it should comprise all like-minded countries in different continents, working to support the rights of Palestinians.

He referred to the Israeli atrocities in Gaza Strip that have led to the martyrdom of more than 6,000 children and 4,000 women and destruction of homes and infrastructures, and said all nations have deplored these crimes.

He said the Zionist entity is engaged in genocide and crime against humanity in Palestine.

“In our talks with the respected president of Cuba, we underlined support for the people of Palestine,” Raeisi added.

What is more deplorable is the support for Zionist crimes by the West and the United States, he further said.

The Iranian president also criticized the incapacity of the international systems to stop these atrocities, saying the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the Arab League, and many of the world’s unions and human rights organizations have lost their function and efficiency.

“Today, humanity is witnessing the incompetency of global organizations that claim to be defending the oppressed.”

For his part, the Cuban president condemned the genocide against the Palestinian nation and stressed the need to try to stop these crimes immediately.

He described the 40-year Cuba-Iran relations as “historical and based on mutual respect,” according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

He said Cuba regards Iran as its friend and brother in the Middle East, and voiced his support for Iran’s legitimate right to determine its fate and sovereignty, condemning U.S. “meddlesome” moves against Iran.

Iran and Cuba  signed seven cooperation documents and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) as well as a joint statement on deepening strategic bilateral relations.

Leading a high-ranking delegation, Diaz-Canel arrived in Iranian capital Tehran on Monday for talks on expanding bilateral cooperation. His visit is the first trip by a Cuban president to Iran since 22 years ago, when late Cuban President Fidel Castro traveled to Iran.

Both Iran and Cuba are under sanctions imposed by the United States and have been promoting cooperation over the past years to counter the embargoes
