Al-Miqdad meets with Gauchat and stresses the necessity of conveying the facts of the Israeli attacks to the Security Council

Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, stressed the need for the United Nations Truce Supervision Committee UNTSO mission to carry out its tasks in terms of conveying facts to the Security Council, especially the Israeli attacks and violations of the Armistice Agreement, which threaten peace and security in the region.

This came during Dr. Al-Miqdad’s meeting today with Major General Patrick Gauchat, Head of Mission at the United Nations Truce Supervision Committee UNTSO, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Minister Al-Miqdad expressed Syria’s appreciation for the work of the Peacekeeping Committee and its keenness on the mandate of UNTSU as it is a witness to the armistice line since 1948.

The discussion dealt with the recent developments in Gaza, where Minister Al-Miqdad stressed that the brutal Israeli crimes against our people in Gaza must stop immediately, and that the United Nations must bear its responsibility to maintain international security and stability, pointing out that the Israeli occupation authorities’ brazen attack on senior UN officials expresses the extent of the Israeli entity’s lack of respect for international law and international legitimacy.

Minister Al-Miqdad also stressed the necessity and importance of the committee carrying out its tasks in terms of conveying facts to the Security Council, especially the Israeli attacks and violations of the Armistice Agreement, which threaten peace and security in the region.

Minister Al-Miqdad warned of the consequences of Israel’s continued air attacks on Syria, and the need to condemn them and work to stop them by the United Nations.

For his part, Major General Gauchat praised the cooperation shown by the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic with the mission and its provision of all facilities that allow its members to carry out the mandate entrusted to them. He said: Under his mandate, he discussed the recent developments in Gaza and their implications for the work of the United Nations Truce Supervision Mission and other peacekeeping missions with the concerned countries in the region, pointing to the importance of the committee’s mandate and the need to confirm international support for its work, and the region’s need for it to continue carrying out its tasks.

The meeting was attended by Minister Councilor Qusay Al-Dahhak, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, and Brigadier General Azdashir Al-Hourani, Head of the Truce Delegation Office in the Syrian Arab Republic.
