With the participation of Syria, represented by the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA and 450 delegates from 100 countries, the Fifth World Media Summit was inaugurated today in Guangzhou, China, under the slogan “Strengthening global confidence and enhancing media”.
During the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by Fu Hua, Director of Chinese News Xinhua, CEO of the World Media Summit, Editor-in-Chief of Xinhua News Agency, and participants in the summit, in which the importance of the summit was emphasized, which since its establishment five years ago constituted an opportunity to strengthen and deepen cooperation between the media institutions.
The speakers pointed out in their statements that the media is required today more than ever to deliver the correct information to the largest segment of the world to create a better world, create a bridge to transform differences into peace, and achieve more certainty and positivity.
The speeches focused on the positive results achieved during previous years as a result of cooperation between international news agencies, which was reflected in expanding participation in the summit to reach a higher level of global media cooperation.
The speeches called for enhancing the use of technical developments and adapting technological achievements in the service of media, in a way that contributes to delivering correct information easily and quickly to the recipient, confronting the spread of fake news, and exchanging humanitarian assistance during news coverage in disaster and war zones.
The summit discusses strengthening global confidence, promoting media development, the role of the media in promoting human development and security, the media’s response to new markets in the digital age, and media cooperation around the world for a better future, in addition to a number of media issues, most notably dealing with the emergence of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, combating fake news that challenges journalistic ethics, and enhancing protection for journalists who cover wars and natural disasters.
The World Media Summit, which is an important, high-level basic platform for exchange and media coordination full of challenges and opportunities, is committed to enhancing cooperation and development between media institutions. Since its inception, the Summit has succeeded in organizing global excellence awards and provided many training programs for media professionals around the world.
