Barcelona decides to sever ties with “Israel” until there is permanent ceasefire in Gaza
The Barcelona City Council has decided to sever all its ties with the Israeli entity in protest against the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip. It clarified that its stance will continue until there is a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the Palestinian people’s rights are guaranteed.
Spanish media outlets said that the decision made by the city council says: “any attempt for collective punishment, forced displacement, destruction of houses and infrastructure facilities or cutting off supplies of energy, fuel, water, food and medical materials, is unacceptable and condemned.
The Barcelona municipality affirmed that the main obstacle facing permanent peace is the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the denial of the Palestinian people’s rights.
This is not the first time Barcelona has cut ties with Israel. In February 2023, the then-Mayor Ada Colau suspended the city’s relationship with “Israel” and the twin city agreement with Tel Aviv.
