Iraqi government condemns attack on the Popular Mobilization Forces in Babylon

The Iraqi government confirmed that any armed action or activity committed outside the military institution is considered a condemnable act and an outlaw activity, and exposes the supreme national interest to danger, stressing that the government is the body that is constitutionally responsible for drawing up and implementing state policies, maintaining order and stability, and defending internal security.

The Iraqi News Agency “INA” quoted the official government spokesman, Basem Al-Awadi, as saying in a statement: “We strongly condemn the attack that targeted the Jurf Al-Nasr area, which took place without the knowledge of the Iraqi government agencies, which is considered a clear violation of sovereignty, and an attempt to disrupt the stable internal security situation.”

He pointed out that the Iraqi government is exclusively concerned with implementing the law and holding violators accountable, and no external party has the right to perform this role on its behalf, which is unacceptable according to Iraqi constitutional sovereignty and international law.

Al-Awadi added: Any armed personnel or others who do not adhere to this principle are acting against the supreme national interest, and that the government will take the necessary measures to defend Iraq’s supreme interests, calling on the international coalition forces in Iraq not to act unilaterally, and to adhere to Iraq’s sovereignty.

Al-Awadi noted that Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed all the armed forces and all security services to carry out their duties, implement and enforce the law, and not allow any party to disrupt or harm the country’s security and stability.

The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces announced that a number of its positions within Jurf al-Nasr sector north of Babylon were subjected to treacherous American attacks at dawn today, which led to the killing of eight of its members and the injury of four others. It condemned this hostile act that represents a blatant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.
