Syria, UDFPA discuss ways to enhance cooperation

Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Makhlouf and the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Syria Muriel Mafico on Wednesday discussed ways to consolidate joint work between the Ministry and the Fund.

The two sides also discussed coordination for the success of current joint projects, and means of creating opportunities to implement new projects mainly related to supporting citizens’ livelihood as well as women and youths in earthquake-affected areas.

Makhlouf said that the report of the environment condition in Syria for the period 2010-202, which was presented today, could open horizons for cooperation in the field of the environment, for confronting climate change, and for coordination with all international bodies and organizations, including the UNPF, as it is considered as guiding means for important projects in which both sides can cooperate.

For her part, Mafico thanked Syria for the support provided to the Fund in the country, noting the importance of the facilitations provided by the Ministry to transport materials, supplies and equipment and ensure their delivery to beneficiaries in local communities.
