The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform launched five national afforestation campaigns that will continue until the end of March 2024 to reforest new, burned and degraded forest sites and increase the area of green areas.
The Director of Forestry at the Ministry, Dr. Ali Thabit, said that the afforestation campaigns aim to establish the concept of sustainability in planting forest trees and enhancing biodiversity.
Thabit pointed out that the number of seedlings available in forest nurseries in the governorates for this season amounts to about 2 million and 700 thousand seedlings from all kinds.
He added that the production plan for the current season amounts to about one million and 800 thousand seedlings.
Thabit pointed out that the campaigns include the central and subsidiary Arbor Day planting campaign, the family planting campaign with the participation of all family members, the planting campaign for lands belonging to schools and universities, the planting campaign for unions, organizations and institutions, in addition to the campaign to distribute 5 free forest seedlings to each family.
Thabit called on all ministries, government agencies, institutions, international and local organizations, civil associations, federations, syndicates, schools, universities and local community representatives to participate in the five national afforestation campaigns.
