The rainfall throughout Daraa Governorate during the past twenty-four hours provides an opportunity for farmers to begin preparing their lands for planting them with wheat and barley.
A number of Daraa farmers believe that the rains are promising and beneficial for wheat, barley, and olives, as they save the costs of irrigating vegetables. They expressed their hope that the rainfall for this season will be good and continuous, as it will reflect positively on the implementation of the agricultural plan, and thus on the production of the new agricultural season.
In a statement to SANA’s reporter, farmer Hussein Al-Hassan said that he will plant his land in the eastern countryside, an area of up to 100 dunams, with barley as soon as the current low-pressure weather ends. He pointed out that the rainfall at this time of the year is appropriate and it contributes to motivating farmers to cultivate their lands, heralding a good season.
Farmer Salem Nabhan explained that the rainfall has a positive impact on crops, especially rain-fed wheat and barley, and that he will plant his land with the wheat crop in the vicinity of the town of Khirbet Ghazala, within an area of 70 dunums. He pointed out that rain will improve the germination of the barley crop that was planted in recent days, and would also increase soil moisture, which would have a positive impact on all crops, including vegetables and fruit trees.
