Olive farmers in Homs province continue to harvest the current season amid expectations of producing more than 78,000 tons of olives and more than 13,000 tons of oil.
The head of the Department of Fruit Trees in the Directorate of Agriculture of Homs, Engineer Naji Saed, confirmed in a statement to SANA that the 53 olive presses spread in various regions there continue to receive the crop from farmers and press it according to technical conditions that are followed up and monitored by the technical committees in the directorate, which carry out field tours at the olive presses.
He pointed out that the area planted with olives in various regions is more than 97 thousand hectares, including more than 12 thousand hectares of irrigation . The total number of trees is 15 million while the number of fruit trees included in production is 14 million trees.
It is worth mentioning that last year’s production amounted to more than 76,000 tons of olives and more than 13,000 tons of oil.
