Hungary stresses rejection of Ukraine  joining  the European Union

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared that Ukraine is  “light years away” from  joining the European Union.

“Our task is to try to correct the false promise to start negotiations with Ukraine on joining the EU , because it is light years away from EU membership,”  Hungarian media reported Orban  as saying during his party Fidesz conference.

He stressed that preventing Ukraine from joining the EU will be one of his government’s top priorities in the coming months.

Earlier, the Hungarian prime minister said “the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, is not ready  in all respects to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
