Lavrov: The establishment of a Palestinian state is inevitable

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed yesterday the inevitability of the establishment of a Palestinian state, underlining the need to solve the humanitarian problems in the Gaza Strip.

Lavrov said in an interview with RT: “The establishment of a Palestinian state is inevitable, and we must ensure that the Palestinian people are not displaced from the Gaza Strip.”

Lavrov explained: “Washington does not want to tie Israel’s hands, and the reason is that it does not want to end the conflict in a way that Israel does not want.”

In another context, Lavrov stressed the end of Western hegemony over the global economy and the emergence of new centers of economic growth in the world to compete with the West.

He said: “A new era characterized by multipolarity has begun to take shape in the world.” Lavrov described China, India, Iran, and the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (CELAC) as among the rising economic powers in the world.”

For her part, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Russia shares the Arab League’s position on humanitarian aid and a ceasefire in Gaza.

She said: “Given the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, the priority remains the rapid cessation of hostilities and the provision of humanitarian assistance, and we note the efforts made by member states in the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation”

Zakharova indicated her country’s readiness for more close coordination with the two sides in order to calm the situation and move it to the level of searching for a comprehensive political and diplomatic settlement in accordance with the known international legal framework.
