Sabbagh receives Armenian parliamentary delegation, stresses the need to expand cooperation in all fields

The Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammouda Sabbagh met today with an Armenian parliamentary delegation headed by the Vice -Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Hakoub Archkian.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen the Syrian -Armenian relations in all fields, especially the parliamentary one.

Sabbagh stressed the importance of intensifying meetings between the parliamentarians in the two friendly countries, and expanding the horizons of economic and cultural cooperation.

Sabbagh indicated the depth and durability of popular ties between the two countries, as the Syrians stood alongside the afflicted Armenians as a result of the Armenian genocide, and provided them with assistance, and Syria has always been a safe shelter for them, and the Armenians have become an authentic and essential part of the Syrian people.

Sabbagh added that Syria has suffered and is still suffering from the scourge of the terrorist war that has been waged against it for more than 12 years with the support of the United States and its allies.

Sabbagh said that the Turkish regime continues with its crimes against the Syrian people by cutting water from more than one million and a half citizens in Hasaka city.

For his part, the head of the Armenian parliamentary delegation stressed the depth of the Armenian -Syrian relations that extends over hundreds of years.

He stressed the need to consolidate relations in all fields through mutual visits of parliamentary and economic delegations, and to enhance the opportunities for joint cooperation between the two sides.

He reaffirmed his deep gratitude to the People’s Assembly for adopting a decision in the year 2020, condemning and recognizing the genocide committed against the Armenians by the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century.

Earlier, Head of the Syrian-Armenian Friendship Committee in the People’s Assembly Lucy Asknian met with the visiting Armenian delegation, led by Vice -Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Hakoub Archkian.

She stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations between Syria and Armenia in various fields to serve the interests of the peoples of the two friendly countries.

She hailed the positive role played by the Armenian Relief Committee in helping the Syrian people confront the repercussions of the devastating earthquake disaster that struck Syria last February.

For his part, Arshakyan said that his country highly values ​​Syria’s role in supporting Armenia in international forums, in which Armenia is not a member, such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, describing the Syrian-Armenian relations as distinguished, long-standing and constantly developing in various fields of cooperation.
