Iran Denounces Politicization of Invitation to Geneva II Talks on Syria

TEHRAN – An Iranian parliamentary official voiced Tehran’s preparedness to participate in the International Geneva II Peace Conference on Syria if invited and without any precondition, and called on the organizers of the event to invite all influential actors in the region without discrimination, according to FNA.

“Iran’s presence in Geneva II talks can pave the way for the resolution of the crisis in Syria,” advisor to the Iranian parliament speaker for international affairs Hussein Sheikholeslam has stated, and underline no meeting on Syria would “yield result without Iran’s participation”.

He also emphasized that Tehran would not accept any preconditions for taking part in the Geneva meeting.

The Iranian parliamentary official further stated that the United States and its western allies should support Tehran’s participation in the Geneva II conference if they truly want the peace talks to be fruitful.

He also called for an immediate end to the ongoing bloodshed in Syria, stressing, “If the crisis in Syria continues, the flames of war will definitely spread to neighboring countries.”
