The area approved through the agriculture plan in Hasakah governorate for the cultivation of wheat and barley crops for the 2023-2024 season is 876,629 hectares distributed in various areas of agriculture stability, according to the Directorate of Agriculture in Hasakah province.
The Assistant director of Agriculture , Eng. Ezz El-Din Al-Hasso, stated in a statement to SANA that the plan for cultivating the irrigated wheat was set at an area 93,130 hectares while rain-fed wheat area was set at 430,692 hectares. He added, the area of irrigated barley reached 21,930 hectares and the rain-fed barley area is 330,877 hectares, distributed among the five agriculture stability areas in the province, in accordance with the agricultural plan.
Engineer Al-Hasso pointed out that the farmers of the governorate are completing the necessary preparations for planting the two crops by securing the necessary seeds and carrying out the cultivation process that precede the seeding operations, pointing out that agricultural operations began several years ago in the period between mid-October and November, but with the delayed rainfall that the governorate witnessed over the past years, farmers began to delay implementing the plan for the period between mid-November and the beginning of December.
It is noteworthy that the planting operations of the two crops usually begin in the southern and eastern regions of Hasakah Governorate, as these regions are warmer.
