Guterres: What the people of Gaza are witnessing is a “crisis for humanity”

New York, (ST) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stressed that the catastrophe now unfolding in Gaza Strip as a result of the continuous Israeli aggression makes the need for a humanitarian ceasefire more urgent as the hours pass.

Guterres said in statements to reporters today, reported by AFP: The nightmare that the Gaza Strip is witnessing is a crisis for humanity, and more importantly, it has destroyed many innocent lives. He renewed the call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and allowing humanitarian aid to enter it.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations warned that the Gaza Strip, which is being bombed, is turning into a “cemetery for children.”

Guterres added: The Israeli occupation army’s ground operations and ongoing air strikes are hitting civilians, hospitals, refugee camps, mosques, churches, and United Nations facilities, including shelters. He pointed out that the United Nations and its partners have launched a humanitarian appeal worth $1.2 billion to help 2.7 million people, including the entire population of the Gaza Strip and 500,000 persons in the West Bank, including occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Secretary-General of the United Nations said that more than 400 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid crossed into Gaza during the past two weeks, but they did not include fuel, without which newborns in incubators and patients would die, in addition to the inability to pump or purify water, which leads to the spread of diseases among the people of the Strip.
