Nebenzia: The humanitarian catastrophe is worsening in Palestine

New York, (ST) – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia said: A massive humanitarian catastrophe is currently exacerbating in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Novosti News Agency quoted Nebenzia as saying during a session of the UN Security Council: Reports indicate that Israel is obstructing the passage of aid through the Rafah crossing, as only 94 trucks have so far been allowed to pass since October 21.

He added that the priorities of the international community are today to stop the bloodshed, reduce the damage to the civilian population, and shift the situation to the political and diplomatic course.

Nebenzia stressed that the Security Council is “paralyzed” because of the position of the United States of America regarding the situation in the Middle East.

He asked the American delegate: “why are you opposing the ceasefire. Does this mean that the United States, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, supports the doctrine of comprehensive revenge in Gaza”? “Where is your sympathy for civilians that you express in every Council session on Ukraine, even though the lives of civilians in Ukraine were not exposed to the same risks facing the Palestinians in Gaza? Or, are you only thinking about the residents of Europe, while the lives of the Palestinians do not matter?”

Nebenzia considered that the Western countries’ abstention from voting on all draft resolutions that included calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was shameful.
