Syrian-Russian Governmental Committee hold meetings in Moscow to follow up on the implementation of cooperation projects
Moscow -With the aim following up on the implementation of the understandings reached during the summit meeting between President Bashar Al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin last March, the Syrian-Russian governmental committee held a meeting on Saturday in Moscow co-chaired by Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam for the Syrian side and by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk for the Russian side in the presence of the official delegations of the two countries.
The meeting indicates the keenness of the governments of the two countries on following up on the executive procedures for the requirements of strengthening joint economic cooperation in accordance with the vision of the leadership of the two countries, and in a way that ensures the optimal investment of available capabilities and resources on the basis of planned and studied integration to confront the challenges facing the economies of the two countries in the light of the instability of the international economy and the attempts of some powers in the West to destabilize the Syrian and Russian economies through unilateral sanctions and coercive measures.
The main theme of the meeting was the two sides’ keenness on the success of all cooperation projects, and the common desire to expand cooperation to contain new programs and projects, in conjunction with signing the agreement on expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
Azzam and Overchuk focused in their discussions on the most important joint economic cooperation programs at the level of trade exchange, and at the level of joint investments.
Azzam explained the great potentials of the Syrian economy, which constitute profitable and promising projects for all participating parties.
For his part, Overchuk noted the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly countries, stressing the Russian government’s keenness on joint work to overcome the difficulties and challenges facing the Syrian economy.
The meeting also dealt with strengthening the institutional structure to support trade exchange between the two countries in terms of activating the Syrian-Russian Trade House formula, and stressing the need for the Business Council to play a more important role in trade exchange between the two countries according to the exchange formulas that serve the current stage, and the need to seize the opportunity to rearrange the international trade movement with the aim of enhancing trade exchange between the markets of the two countries and friendly markets.
Another meeting was between heads of the Syrian-Russian governmental Committee for Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Mansour Azzam and the Russian Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities Irek Faizullin.
The meeting witnessed talks on the work mechanism of the committee and axis of cooperation it supervises in the fields of trade, finance, banking, agriculture and energy, as well as in the domains of human resources, health and education.
Azzam and Faizullin signed an agreement on expanding economic cooperation between Syria and Russia with the aim of boosting joint investments, mainly in the fields of energy and infrastructure, agriculture and industry.
