China calls on the international community to take urgent measures to stop the war on the Gaza Strip

Beijing (ST) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the international community to take urgent measures to stop the war on Gaza Strip and ensure basic living conditions for the people of the Strip.

Xinhua News Agency quoted Wang as saying yesterday during a phone call with his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al-Maliki: “China deeply sympathizes with the plight of the Palestinian side, especially the people of Gaza, and it opposes all acts that harm civilians, and condemns any violation of international law. The immediate priorities are to seek a ceasefire and de-escalate tensions, so as to avoid exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.”

Wang noted that when dealing with international and regional hotspot issues, major countries should remain objective, fair and calm, exercise restraint, and take the lead in observing international law.

He stressed that the fundamental way out of the Palestinian issue lies in implementing the “two-state solution” and establishing an independent State of Palestine, so as to realize the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel.
