Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemns anti-Syria statements issued by the EU, France and Britain regarding Chemical Weapons Convention

Damascus – Syria has condemned the anti-Syria statements issued recently by the EU, France and Britain regarding Syria’s joining Chemical Weapons Convention.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the European Union, France and Britain issued instigating statements against Syria on what they called the 10th anniversary of the Syrian Arab Republic’s accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention, stressing that Syria strongly condemns these statements.

“All the fallacies and distorted facts in these statements come within the framework of the hostile positions, the misinformation campaigns and the false slanders launched by the European Union, France, and Britain against Syria over the past years, the ministry explained.

“Syria confirms that, following its accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention, it fulfilled all its relevant obligations and cooperated fully with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which resulted in the elimination of all components of its chemical program, a fact that was recognized by the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW and the United Nations,” the ministry added.

The Ministry also said that said the Syrian government has informed the international community in a documented manner about the crimes committed by terrorist groups, including their use of chemical weapons or their preparations to use these weapons, but the western countries have turned a blind eye to these documented facts and have failed to adopt right and honest policies regarding the situation in Syria.

the ministry added that these countries sponsored the issuance of politicized decisions in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons that blatantly violate the provisions of the CWC, which led to an increase in polarization and division within it, and caused severe damage to the credibility and professionalism of the organization.

The ministry clarified that the collective West has intensified its hostile policies and systematic campaigns against Syria, including through pressure on the OPCW and its technical secretariat, which led the organization to be diverted from its accurate natural mission and be tool to serve the agendas of Western countries.

The ministry went on to say that the Western countries, led by the United States, France and Britain, practiced a policy of double standards, which was evident in their imposition of inhumane and illegitimate coercive measures on the Syrian people and their attempt to blackmail the Syrian state by obstructing humanitarian and development work and linking any aid or early recovery projects to conditions and loyalties that violate the principles and values of humanitarian action.

The Ministry concluded its statement by saying that the position of the European Union and the West on the Israeli aggression on the occupied Palestinian territories, especially on Gaza Strip, is nothing but a further evidence of the wrong policies of these colonialist countries, policies that must be reconsidered and come to an end.”
