Muscat (ST): The Gulf Cooperation Council called for an immediate halt of the Israeli aggression against Gaza Strip and an end to the illegal Israeli siege of the Strip.
In the final statement of its forty-third special session in the Omani capital, Muscat, read by the Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Council, Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi, the Council stressed the necessity of ensuring the provision of humanitarian and relief aid and basic needs, resuming the work of electricity and water lines, and allowing the entry of fuel, food and medicine for the people of the Gaza Strip.
The Gulf Ministerial Council affirmed its support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land, warning against any attempts to displace them, calling for the protection of civilians, refraining from targeting them, and compliance and commitment to international law and international humanitarian law without exception.
The Council called for international protection for the Palestinian people, declaring its intention to activate an urgent humanitarian relief operation to help the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to provide immediate support for humanitarian and relief aid worth $100 million.
The Council also reaffirmed the necessity of ensuring the urgent delivery of this aid to Gaza, stressing its position calling for ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, affirming the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with international law and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly, stressing the responsibility of the international community to deal with the Palestinian issue without double standards.
