Iranian Commander Warns US, Europe, Arab Regimes of Supporting Terrorism in Syria

TEHRAN – Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazzayeri warned the US, Europe and the Arab regional states of the consequences of financing terrorists in Syria, and said the terrorist groups will eventually harm their interests as well, according to FNA.

“Some terrorists might be killed within the framework of a preplanned plot in fruitless conflicts by those who have created (supported) them but those who remain will create abundant problems for Europe, the US and the regional countries,” Jazayeri said on Wednesday.

“Those who nurse and train terrorists will be touched by the blasts (to be conducted by the same terrorists),” he added.

Jazayeri underlined that the western and Arab regimes’ attempts to defeat the Syrian government and challenge the regional resistance have failed due to the Syrian people’s presence on the scene.

In relevant remarks on Tuesday, a senior Iranian lawmaker underscored that the Syrian government and nation’s resistance against the nearly 3-year-long foreign-backed insurgency has changed the scene of developments in Syria .

“The perseverance and resistance of the Syrian people showed that faith in God and unity lead to victory over enemies, and the signs of defeat in the camp of Syria’s enemies are now evident,” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with a number of senior Syrian cultural activists in Tehran.

“Terrorists and Takfiris are being used as pawns by the United States and its regional allies, and are responsible for the spread of insecurity and instability in the region,” Boroujerdi stressed.

The UN has set January 22, 2014, as the date for an international peace conference on Syria. The conference will open in the Swiss city of Montreux on January 22, before moving to the UN office in Geneva on January 24.
