Moscow: Security Council’s inability to condemn the terrorist attack on Military Academy in Homs is evidence of double standards

The Russian Foreign Ministry denounced the double standards of Western countries and their allies who are members of the UN Security Council as they refused to condemn the terrorist attack that targeted the Military Academy in the Syrian city of Homs, indicating that this is evidence of these countries’ submission to Washington.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said that “the Russian representatives in the UN Security Council called on other member countries of the United Nations to issue a general press statement that condemns the bloody terrorist act at the Military Academy in Homs, and that expresses condolences to the families of the victims and the injured,” indicating that this initiative, which is a normal practice in the council, was rejected by several delegations.

The ministry explained that it turned out that the Western Troika – the United States, Britain and France – in addition to its allies – Albania, Malta and Japan – seemed unable of condemning this terrorist act, adding: the UN Secretariat also acted in this way, as the Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his envoy to Syria Gier Pedersen expressed concern only without uttering any word of condolence regarding what happened in Homs.

The ministry asserted that the double standard in positions on terrorism, on protecting the civilian population, and on respecting the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of countries based on these countries’ submission to Washington and its allies can only cause profound regret and disappointment.
