International Plan to Assess Status of Drinking Water, Sanitation

 

DAMASCUS, (ST) -The Ministry of Water Resources and the organization of “Action Against Hunger” recently signed an international action plan with a total budget estimated at three million dollars can to assess the current status of drinking water, sanitation and health education.

The plan to build the technical capacity of the cadres of the Ministry of Water Resources and training in the use and maintenance of equipment and the provision of generators and pumps of all kinds, transformers and purification plants, desalination and treatment plants for sewage in addition to tanks and possible logistical assistance in the supply and implementation of agreed actions.

The plan includes facilitating and providing all relevant information , coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government agencies concerned and Syrian Arab Red Crescent to coordinate efforts in the field visits of the organization and the transfer of materials and some possible logistic assistance within Syrian territory , consultation and coordination with the ministry of everything related to the activities of the organization in the water sector in order to identify the requirements and priorities of needs and provide all the necessary documents for technical and financial assistance provided to the water sector.

The Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Bassam Hanna, commended the humanitarian role of the organization to contribute to the mitigation of the effects of the current crisis as a result of the unjust economic embargo which targets primarily the Syrian people, pointing to the importance of this plan, to help deliver safe drinking water for all citizens in all areas.

For her part, the representative of the organization “Action Against Hunger “, Svetlana Kabostjan, said that that the organization, which began its work in Syria in 2009, seeks to expand their activities in order to provide basic services and secure drinking water and implementing more projects and rehabilitation of some temporary accommodation centers.

It is noteworthy that the organization, “Action Against Hunger”, is an international non -governmental, non -profit organization dedicated to saving lives by combating hunger and malnutrition- related diseases and the improvement of living conditions through strengthening and improving access to basic services.
